Greetings IWCI! We certainly have had an interesting start to 2019. One day it is so cold people are advised to stay home, whereas several days later it feels like spring has come to Indiana. All the changes in the weather serve as a reminder that change is a constant in life. When we are working with severely injured workers, helping them navigate the changes they are experiencing is a critical task. Many of us know, the quality and quantity of recovery as well as the extent to which someone engages with their life depends on how they manage these changes. Our mission at IWCI is provide education and training so we can be a consistent and valuable resource for those we serve.

We start the year with an exciting presentation from Dr. Poulter today. We will learn about the new technology available to spine surgeons. Next month we encourage everyone to invite all of the claims examiners and adjusters you know to the March 7, 2019 luncheon–. As some know, the Indiana Worker’s Compensation Board is transitioning to EDI Version 3.1 on March 20, 2019.  This timely training, EDI 3.1, Changes in Indiana from FROIs to SROIs, offered by IWCI will review what you need to know for filing the FROI and SROI in the new system. We are pleased to have the presentation provided by the Indiana Worker’s Compensation Board staff – Katia Brodskaya and David Babcock. Please make sure your colleagues know about this opportunity to learn how to understand and interpret the technical requirements for Claims Release 3.1 EDI for Indiana.

I want to make sure you mark your calendars for our other upcoming events. The next scheduled IWCI monthly event will be May 2, 2019. This will be a breakfast event. Our IWCI Northeast President, Jason Hazelett, Physical Therapist at Steppin’ Up Physical Therapy, will be presenting on the use of Dry Needling in cases involving a work-related injury.

If getting away from the office is a challenge, try our breakfast meeting. We start the breakfast time at 6:00 AM, begin the presentation at 6:30 AM, and end by 7:30 AM so you can get to the office by 8 AM. The IWCI Golf Outing is scheduled for Friday June 7, 2019 at Ironwood Golf Course.

Finally, we are finalizing our plans for the 2019 Annual IWCI Seminar in Indianapolis. The event will be held August 15 and 16. We will have setup time available for vendors the evening of August 14. This year we will have our full day of seminars, keynote speaker, and vendor area on Thursday and a half day of seminars related to ethics and legal issues starting Friday morning. The cocktail event will be held Thursday evening. We are holding the event at the Marriott East. If you are interested in getting your room reserved, please follow this link to book your room at the IWCI rate –  This is always a great event and hope you will mark your calendars and join us!

Hope to see you soon.
